Playtop

Playtop® Safer Surfacing is Europe’s leading wet pour play surface. It is designed for use in play areas and beneath children’s play equipment and was devised to minimise the risk of injury to children who fall in playgrounds. Due to its long lasting properties, Playtop has also proved itself as a versatile surface for golf walkways and multi use games areas.

Playtop® is made from rubber granules, bound together and laid in-situ. The continuous surface is very strong, yet soft enough to absorb the impact from a fall. Due to the way Playtop is installed, games and activities can be inlaid to add many different colours, pictures, patterns and fun to the play environment. Playtop® Safer Surfacing is ideal for outdoor use as it is completely porous, extremely strong and requires very little regular maintenance.

First installed in 1977, Playtop® pioneered the UK market and it is now sold and installed in many other countries. In total, more than a million square metres have been installed worldwide.

The Design of Playtop®

Playtop® is a continuous, porous material made from rubber granules and polyurethane binders. It is mixed and laid on site as a wet-pour product. It is immensely strong and durable; retaining its life-saving deformation properties over many years of the hardest use children can give it.

Other Applications of Playtop®

In addition to its primary function as an impact-absorbing surface installed beneath playground equipment, Playtop® has found many other applications where a continuous resilient surface is wanted. Its wear resistance, porosity and sound dampening are other valuable properties. In these applications the full impact-absorbing characteristics are not usually needed, and the surface is normally installed with a 20mm top layer only.

Playtop® is ideal for use on surfaces where falling over could be particularly dangerous: for example on paths and patios at hospitals, hospices and homes for the elderly or for children. It is also used in prisons, military establishments – and zoos. At football, rugby and other sports grounds, Playtop® is widely used for areas surrounding the pitch. It offers a comfortable warm-up and run-off surface, undamaged by studs and easy to clean. It can be supplied in club colours or with sponsors’ logos or advertisements. Blackburn Rovers and Glasgow Rangers are two clients of Playtop®.

Playtop® Walkway is a version of Playtop® designed specifically for golf clubs. It is used for both outdoor and indoor areas where spikes are worn, providing a quiet, comfortable, durable surface.
